Tofu Alternatives

Veggie burger recipes  

Tofu Meat Patties, Fried 

Materials:

 

·          2 pieces firm tofu 

·          200 grams of lean pork mince 

·          1/4 piece of carrot      

·          An equal amount of spring onions  

·          An equal amount of oyster mushroom or any other type of mushrooms  

·          An equal amount of dried prawns      

·          1 large egg  

·          2 cloves of garlic      

·          3 tablespoons of corn flour 

·          Oil for deep frying 

 

Seasoning:

 

    

·          1 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce 

·          1 teaspoon of light soya sauce 

·          2 teaspoons of oyster sauce  

·          1/4 teaspoon of white pepper powder 

·          1/4 teaspoon of black pepper powder 

 

Preparation Method 

 

In a mixing bowl, blend and mash up the tofu, pork, carrot, spring onions, mushrooms, dried prawns, garlic, corn flour and seasoning and mix properly in one circular motion. Set aside for 30 minutes. 

 

Place mixture in a stainless steel bowl or deep plate and heavy steam it for 10 minutes. The mixture, particularly the meat, should be at least 70% cooked right after steaming. Remove from steam and position bowl over cold water.  

 

When mixture has adequately cooled down, break the egg onto mixture and stir it in one circular motion till egg is evenly distributed. Add some corn flour if blend is runny. 

 

Warm oil in wok for deep frying. To fry, scoop one heaped tablespoon of concoction and using another spoon held on another hand, slide the blend into the oil. Fry till patty becomes golden brown. Place fried patties on absorbent kitchen napkins to absorb unwanted oil earlier to serving. 

 

 


Scrambled Tofu (As recommended by Oprah Winfrey)

This recipe reviewed by Oprah offers a heart healthy alternative to scrambled eggs with tofu and all natural ingredients. It’s great for lunch, dinner, or anytime you feel like it. Try it out, Oprah knows what she’s talking about. 

What you’ll need

2 Tbs. olive oil
1/2 cup onion, minced 

1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 

1/2 tsp. turmeric 

16-oz. firm tofu 

3 Tbs. red bell pepper, diced 

1/2 tsp. salt 

salsa & corn tortillas (if you want) 

3 cloves garlic, peeled & sliced
3/4 cup green onions, scallions, chives, sliced
2 tsp. soy sauce

 

How to do it 

First, break up the tofu into bits, then, get a frying pan, put your stove burner on medium setting. Toss the garlic, peppers, and mix in the olive oil into the pan. Sauté the ingredients for a couple of minutes. After that, mix in the scrambled tofu and everything else, cook it for 3 more minutes, and you’re ready to eat!
